…Ever…

Ever is part of forever. And they all lived happily ever after, is how those two words often go together. The eternal non-ending we all possess deep in our soul. My love for fairytales is the deepest love in my soul. We’ll be revisiting that FOR SURE.

Ever stands for the big questions that we’ll be discussing, as we lie back in our little boats, staring at the stars on our journey into artistic happiness and self-discovery. What literally is forever? What is eternity? What is time? How can we comprehend any of it? Yet how can we not?  What is the mature of reality? How can we understand… everything? Anything? And how can we do it through creativity? We’re gonna stargaze, and we’re gonna wonder, and we’re gonna love it.

We’re going deep. We’re diving off this rowing boat and trying to touch the bottom of the ocean. Who are we? What are we… What’s your identity? As a creator, as a human being, as a Thing in the universe made conscious, as a solid expression of pure energy riding this elliptical spherical starship round in circles for seemingly no reason? Does it matter who I am, or who you are? What constructs determine who we are, be they real or imaginary? This touches everything. We’re going deep.

When I did my degree in illustration, I was most excited to write my dissertation. After some thinking between the subjects I was interested in, I finally chose. I was going to write it on the nature of reality and the theory of interconnectedness and everything. I meant that literally. I just love everything I have to chew on for ages with my brain, like giant cosmic brain toffee! A moon-sized lump of toffee! (MMMmmmmmmm…having a Homer Simpson moment about toffee now. Anyone tried Jeavons? Wow.) Yet for some reason my tutor said the topic was too vast and perhaps I’d like to narrow it down to something more specific..? I had no idea what he meant. I did try- in the end I wrote it about the nature of reality. That was specific enough. We’re going there again. There will be regular blogs on big questions, thoughts of the week, reviews of artists and movements that try to answer these big questions or delve into these massive topics and communicate something back to the rest of us. The astronauts, philosophers and deep sea divers of the artistic world.

Who are you thinking of already? Do you know any artists whose work reminds you of something big? What big topics does your imagination love?
